Last week at Charcon 2015 I ran a theme game for the convention. The theme was Monsters vs. Aliens, so I added in come cowboys and threw the whole mess into the western town I had been building. I used the Blackwater Gulch rules and miniatures, along with my Brigade Games alien invaders and some various monsters that came from prepainted RPG and Clix miniatures. I’ll upload the data cards used if people are interested.

These little guys were an impulse buy at Origins this summer.  They are made by Reaper Miniatures and are part of the Chronoscope line.  They are meant for 28mm heroic scale, but are short, about 20mm tall.  They come with a Warmachine size bases and were intended to be two to a base.  I rebased them on pennies and painted them similar to my Brigade Games 28mm invaders.  I’ve included a couple comparison shots.

So, I did not take very many pictures at Origins this year.  There are a few reasons for this, but the main one is that I was too busy playing to take them.  I had a great time this year.  Another factor is that there were fewer of the large scenic displays of previous years.  With limited time, I largely took pictures of a few things that either caught my attention or I had promised to take pictures of.

With that out of the way, here are a few pictures of an Alice in Wonderland themed board that Reaper was using for their Warlord game.

My son has a number of the plastic Star Wars Miniatures that WOTC put out.  One of his favorites is the AT-ST model.  Today he suggested that we battle his robot against my robot.  Not a bad idea.  I did some research and then pulled out the spreadsheet.

Here’s what I came up with for stats.

Name: ATST

Type: MSV

AC: 3

Speed: 20

Crew: 2

Jump: N/A

Free Weight: 1

Free Power: 16

Standard Gear:

  • Trueshot x2
  • Sideswipe
  • Spitter
  • FPPAS

Waaay back when, when rocks were soft and dirt was new my best friend ran a gaming store.  He stocked the Mutant Chronicles Warzone game.  It was on the list of things were were going to do, but we never got around to it before he closed the store and went to school.  I had chosen to play their Imperial faction, and had bought a small army, most of which was re-purposed or sold.  One of the models which I loved was the Hurricane Walker.  It was a monstrous hunk of lead.  I loved the sheer over the top design of a World War Two bomber on legs.

Sea Dog Game Studios had a great presence at Charcon again this year and you can find my picture gallery after the jump.  They ran the deathmatch scenario and there were lots of enthusiastic players and they sold out of starter kits.  In the interest of disclosure, I need to mention that I have started sculpting work for Techcommander.

The last morning of the convention, an impulse buy by Dave turned into a special scenario as the town was overrun by vandals that filled it with lawn flamingos.  Brian quickly assembled a trophy to give to the player who destroyed the most of these blights on architecture.

Enjoy the show.

In the back of my mind I have a G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. scenario based on the Flatwoods Monster legend to give some local flavor to an upcoming Charcon.  The core of my alien forces has been completed for a while.  They are from Brigade Games Alien Invasion line.  The saucer is a Pegasus hobbies model and the little saucer is a 50 cent capsule toy.  I still have an alien commander, bodyguard, scientists and heavy weapons to paint.  I’d like to find a few more of the small saucers or some equivalent.  The final touch will be some hand sculpted encounter suits that look like the monster of legend.

More pics after the jump.

TechCommander is a great new game that saw it’s official release at Origins.  I bought the rulebook and a pair of MSVs (mechs) to work on.  It’s worth your time to check out.  It uses a lot of interesting ideas and is unique in that it embraces advances science fiction technology instead of being a WW2 game with sci-fi icing.  This post is another picture dump, so enjoy the giant stompy robot goodness.

I obtained some cheap pre-painted HeroScape miniatures.  I have rebased them in preparation for using them to use as alien invaders.  Here are a few pictures of them.
